My first post!

Hello everybody! My name is Jack, I'm 13 years old and in a wheelchair. I have Cerebral Palsy and sometimes I really hate it! I want this blog to be a place where I can write down my thoughts or share a joke with all of you. I promise it will get more interesting!!!
I have the coolest thing! It is called an Eco2 from PRC. It is a communication device and a computer and it uses eye gaze technology which means I can just look at letters or icons and it types for me! I can talk but I am sometimes hard to understand.
For a while I've been thinking about how hard CP is. My parents have been always right there for me. One of the reasons my CP is hard is because I am not allowed to play on regular sports teams with my friends. So I help out with teams sometimes but it isn't the same. This year I played baseball on a challenger league team for kids with special needs. That was better than nothing but I would have rather been on a regular team with my friends. I want to find a basketball team. Maybe Derrick Rose could borrow my wheelchair while he recovers! I play sports with my friends sometimes but it's been a long time.
So to sum up about me I am the biggest sports fan in the world (especially Chicago Bulls, Bears, Cubs, Blackhawks). Having CP is hard but I still have to live through it. Every week I will plan on posting something. I hope it will help people just like me with CP realize they're not alone!
Later,
Jack

  4. Jack - congratulations on your new blog! What a proud aunt I am. I already know that you are funny and extremely knowledgable about sports (although you should pick better teams). Now lot of people will know too. Looking forward to reading more.

  5. Jack - Great start! Can't wait to read more. I had a thought since Ron Santo was inducted into the Hall of Fame today, can you make one of your future blogs about your opportunity to meet him?

  9. Hi Jack, I think you are awesome, I have a 12 year old son named John who has cp too. He uses a dynavox to speak and is learning to use an eyegaze device like you. You should be very proud of yourself, it can be hard and tiring to use. Guess what, John loves sports, and all Chicago sports teams, plays baseball and especially loves the cubs. Isn't that funny?

  11. Jack..nice blog. I'm a big Bears fan (Cubs fan too, but I never find time to watch any games)and am really looking forward to this season with a hopefully improved offense. Any coach will tell you that the mental aspect of a sport is just about as important as the physical aspect...so you will be contributing more than you know to any team with which you are involved if you keep up your love for and knowledge of sports. Some day you will be a big shot analyst or statistician or consultant with a big league team and all your friends will be hitting you up for tickets! Looking forward to reading more on your blog.

  12. Hi Jack,
You have a wonderful attitude. I am glad you have this blog. I have a son who also has cp. He also has a wonderful attitude. Unfortunately he can not talk and we are working on communication. Hopefully some day he will be able to express himself like you.

  13. Hi Jack! I'm really looking forward to reading more from you - you've got a great attitude! My daughter is 5 and she also has CP (and she'll be getting a device from PRC soon too - she has a LOT to say, she just has a hard time saying it, as I'm sure you understand!). I'm always looking for positive role models for her and I think I've found another one in you. :) Best wishes from Atlanta!
